Everyday we’re influenced by cultures other than our own. Food, music, fashion, and language are just some of the many ways we are inspired by the mosaic of cultures around us. This kind of sharing is generally positive and can lead to a better understanding of and appreciation for perspectives and traditions different from our own.
But as most of us learned as children, sharing and taking are two different things. Likewise, appreciating another culture and appropriating aspects of that culture have different impacts. But sometimes it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.
Join us for this 60-minute discussion about the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. We’ll discuss the effects of both and how to know when a line has been crossed.

Race Bridge offers monthly, 60-minute conversations intended to help Milwaukeeans better understand the nuances of race and racism – while feeling empowered to speak openly them. The goal is also to equip program participants with the language and tools to identify racial inequity and challenge it in a productive way.
Missed a Race Bridge conversation? Don’t worry, you can check out the recordings on FUEL’s Youtube channel, here.>>
Could you let us know if this will be livestreamed and/or recorded? Looks very interesting and I am a moderator for a Racial Justice class, so we wanted to confirm what options folks had for viewing this. Thanks much!
