During his first term, he declared racism a public health crisis, laid the groundwork for equitable budgeting practices, and boosted funding for mental health and youth programs. He’s also championed affordable housing and workforce development, believing that a stronger Milwaukee emerges when everyone has a fair shot at success. His vision for the county is clear: align policy, partnerships, and people around the common goal of making Milwaukee County the healthiest in Wisconsin.
But David’s dedication to progress doesn’t stop at policy. He’s a homegrown leader who understands firsthand the obstacles facing Milwaukee’s most underserved communities, and that drives his every decision. Recently graduating from college while holding one of the most influential positions in the region shows his commitment to lifelong learning—and to leading by example. More About the Speaker
David Crowley became Milwaukee County Executive in May 2020, making history as the first African American and the youngest person to serve in this role. Previously, he represented Wisconsin’s 17th Assembly District in the State Legislature, where he focused on criminal justice reform and community revitalization. A graduate of Milwaukee Public Schools, he also recently earned his college degree—adding “student” to his roster of responsibilities while charting a new course for county government. David remains a steadfast advocate for collaboration, equity, and opportunity for all who call Milwaukee home.
